Paget's Disease of Bone (2) Recently, IL-6 production by cells in the osteoclast lineage has been implicated as an autocrine/paracrine factor. There are often abnormal numbers of haemopoietic precursors in the bone marrow of patients with Paget's disease. This may reflect an increase in the precursors for the osteoclast, since the osteoclast shares its precursor with the mature cells of the blood. There is no abnormality in calcium or phosphate homeostasis.
